
Philip M Cooper was born and educated in the United Kingdom. Before his writing career, he worked in several major investment banks in London, New York, Basel and Athens as a trader and a trainer. He later left the bank, entered into a partnership with two colleagues, and set up a successful financial training company (New Learning Developments) in New York City.
In 2012, he returned to the UK to write. To date, he has written several fictional short stories, a science fiction story titled The Old Woman of Mani, a poetry anthology titled If I Could Paint Your Picture and a children’s short story titled Sparky the Baby Green Dragon. He has also had two non-fiction books published through a New York publishing house, titled Mastering Options and Competing In The Financial Markets, both on value investing in currencies and options.
He has just published his third novel, a fast-paced hybrid political/science fiction thriller titled The Aegean Enigma. This novel, the third in the Alex Kalfas thriller series, is again set in Greece and pulls on historical facts and myth to weave an exciting suspense story. about drug cartels and a 2,500-year-old secret buried beneath the Aegean. All three Alex Kalfas novels, Rape of the Aegean, Smokescreen, and The Aegean Enigma, are highlighted within this site. Philip is currently working on Remembering Jounieh, a prequel to the Alex Kalfas series due to be published in early 2027.
Philip’s hobbies include movies, playing tennis, reading, travel Greece, flying single-engine planes, and quizzing.
